Dr. Sketchy's Snow, Glass, Apples

A few weeks ago I went to Dr. Sketchy's staging of "Snow, Glass Apples" in East Atlanta, Lisa Stock's play adapted from the Neil Gaiman story. The excellent actors staged scenes and poses from the play for all of us sketchers. The sun went down too soon and it got harder to draw, despite the candles and lanterns, but I did get in a few sketches before that:

I went out to the Clermont Lounge, a venerable Atlanta institution, to take part in this month's Dr. Sketchy's Anti-Art School. Here's a few drawings from the night's session.

First up, a challenge to make the drawing into a fairy tale or fable. Add one spider, and voila! Little Miss Muffet.

Life drawing at work

Last week we had the first of what will hopefully be a regular in-house life drawing session at the office. We've got a great space, with a custom built mobile riser for the model. Things got started a little late, but it was a good night for drawing. Its been way too many months since I've done life drawing, and I'm looking forward to making it a regular habit again.

It's two years since I've posted anything here. The old stuff looks like just that: old stuff, and not representative of what I'm up to now, so away it goes for now, and a fresh start opens up. I don't promise to post often -- I'm too busy at work to guarantee that, and all of that work is under NDA, so I can't share any of it. I do plan to make time for more personal work though, and this blog is where I'll post it when I can.

Gaijin Studios Figure Drawing Session

Last night I went over to Gaijin Studios to participate in their now weekly figure drawing class. The Gaijin guys are an amazingly talented bunch, and I figured they would know what they were doing in finding a good model and setting up some good lights, and I was not disappointed. The model was a real pro who could hold a pose like he was frozen in time. The lighting was great, and provided some good form and definition to work with. Here are the sketches I did, starting with some quick pose drawings and ending with a few 20-minute poses. All of these were done with black prismacolor pencil on light newsprint paper, except for the last two, when I got out the charcoal pencil and blending stump.
